GEIGER INline system for Closed Cavity Facades

Sun protection motor in CCF

The extreme operating conditions to be faced by sun protection systems in Closed Cavity Facade (CCF) can create serious technical problems. The Geiger Company has taken up the challenge and presents with the new Inline system a practical drive solution.

From an energetic point of view, the future belongs to the closed double-skin facades. From the perspective of the sun protection manufacturers, however, several difficulties arise when using a sun protection system in a CCF. Once the façade inner space is closed, it is practically inaccessible for either repair, cleaning or maintenance. In addition, the temperatures can reach up to 100 ° C and – due to the special ventilation with filtered, dried compressed air – the humidity is very low. For a cost-effective use in such facades the sun protection drives and their components must be extremely fail safe and durable.

Separation of drive and integrated sun protection

The new GEIGER INline system (GSI) meets these requirements. The modular system has been specially tailored to the needs and requirements in a CCF. Specifically, the GSI consists of a drive motor with angle gear, which is outside the closed facade, a feed-through element through the facade profile and a second angle gear as well as a rotary encoder system inside the facade.
Drive and external angle gear of the GSI are firmly connected with the feed-through element so that a robust drive system results. Because of its position outside the CCF the motor is easily accessible for maintenance and service purposes. The through element is placed in the façade aluminium profiles and is used as a connecting element in the closed facade room. It is characterized by absolute tightness and high resistance. Inside the facade the power transmission is passed directly from the feed-through element to the second angle gear. It is designed in order to fit in all current top boxes of sunscreen manufacturers and to drive the turning shaft of the sun protection device without shaft misalignment.

Durability and comfort with integrated measuring system

To increase the durability and the ease of use of the sun protection, GEIGER is planning an encoder system that functions as an integrated measurement system. The GSI0300 encoder is accurately placed on the turning shaft of the sun protection element. As a result, in addition to the direct measurement of position and length of the blind, the motor can be switched on and the upper end position can be set as reference point. Via rotary encoder system the building control detects the actual position of the blind and can make automatically the necessary adjustments.
Optionally the encoder system can also measure the temperature and the humidity in the CCF. Thus, an active dew point can be implemented over the building control that affects the ventilation system in order to achieve a better control of the climate in the CCF. A constantly good climate in a closed façade inner space not only saves energy and money but also protects components and sunscreen which is a guarantee for durable functionality – a most necessary quality in Closed Cavity Facade.

GEIGER usual high quality

Each component meets the GEIGER high quality requirements and is characterized by great reliability, exceptional durability and extreme robustness – perfect for use under the difficult conditions in a CCF. The GSI is easy to install and is compatible with all current sun protection elements for closed facades.
